The escape room trend is everywhere these days, so I am sure you have seen them and maybe even tried one out yourself! I wanted to start making classroom escape room activities, but I didn’t want anything too involved or time-consuming. Classroom teachers don’t have time for that!! Escape rooms that are low to no-prep while still engaging students in learning was my goal.
This is the escape room design I settled on. Each unit contains 4 different close reading puzzle worksheets related to the chosen topic. The goal of the escape room challenge is to practice close reading, but with a TWIST! Students will read and reread a text multiple times in search of answers to get their code and unlock their room. No stuffing envelopes or locks needed.
These classroom escape room activities are perfect to use when introducing a new topic or as a review at the end of a lesson/unit. You could have students work together in pairs to solve the puzzle or students can work independently to test their content knowledge. Have a few students who need a little challenge? Simply print out one of these escape rooms for some extra learning fun. Need something engaging to leave with a substitute that doesn’t require too much prep? There are so many options for classroom use!
It’s been so much fun making these, that my list is always growing! At this time, I have escape rooms about the human body, natural disasters, famous landmarks and sites around the world, and some that pair with popular units from my shop. You can check out some of my favorites below!
